Bring an upgraded iron mace, poison resistance mead, fresh food and the Rested effect. Offer ten Withered bones at Bonemass's skull altar. Fight in short openings, leave the poison cloud, and clear summoned enemies before they surround you. A bow is a poor main weapon against his strong pierce resistance.
Prepare before offering the bones

Search Swamp crypts and ruins for a Vegvisir that marks a Bonemass altar. Collect Withered bones while clearing Sunken Crypts for iron.

Repair your iron mace and defensive equipment. Choose a shield you can use comfortably, but plan to move out of poison rather than block it.

Prepare poison resistance mead and drink it before exposure. It is protection for the coming fight, not a cure for damage already applied.

Eat a health-focused three-food mix with enough stamina for several dodges. Bring replacement meals and healing mead.

Clear nearby enemies and obvious obstructions. Set a recovery portal away from the altar, where the boss and wandering enemies are less likely to destroy it.
Do not spend your first silver preparing for this fight: the usual reason to defeat Bonemass is to obtain the Wishbone for silver prospecting. Frost damage works well, but an iron mace is a more accessible recommendation at this stage.

Why the fight takes too long
Check damage type before upgrading another bow. Bonemass is weak to blunt damage and strongly resists pierce; fire arrows do not solve that mismatch. Poison damage is also ineffective against him.
Repeatedly sprinting through Swamp water can leave you without the stamina needed to dodge. Keep your Rested effect, choose a clear fighting area and walk when you have breathing room. In a group, agree who is handling the smaller enemies instead of having everyone chase damage.
After victory, collect the Wishbone and trophy. Equip the Wishbone for the next silver search; merely carrying it is not enough.
