Quick answer
What to do first
First check whether there is a solar flare. If not, inspect the affected power network, generation, stored charge and demand. Batteries can bridge ordinary supply gaps but do not make normal electrical equipment work through a solar flare. Keep food and temperature fallbacks that do not depend on that promise.
Match your symptom
| Symptom | Likely cause | Check | Next action |
|---|---|---|---|
| Only one device is off | Local connection or breakdown | Select the device and inspect its connection and condition. | Reconnect, switch on or repair the affected device. |
| Network drains every night | Stored energy cannot cover the deficit | Compare generation, consumption and charge across a day. | Reduce nonessential loads or improve supply/storage. |
| Everything stops during a flare | Event disables electrical equipment | Read the active event. | Wait for it to end and use non-electric survival fallbacks. |
| Batteries exist but supply fails | Empty or disconnected storage | Check charge and network connectivity. | Charge storage on the correct network; extra empty batteries add no energy. |
Separate a blackout from a solar flare
Read the network rather than counting generators. An isolated device can fail while the rest of the colony has abundant power. Trace the connection and check switches or a breakdown before adding a new generator.
Read the power network
A battery stores a surplus; it does not create one. Watch whether generation ever exceeds demand and whether stored energy survives the low-generation period. An expanding freezer or growing room can change the budget even when your old setup used to work.
Prepare non-electric fallbacks
A solar flare is a different failure mode. Ordinary batteries and fuel generators do not make disabled electrical equipment immune to the event. Prepare food reserves, limit freezer traffic and provide climate-appropriate non-electric support for colonists where available.
Restore essential loads first
Restore the survival chain before convenience loads. Freezers, critical growing equipment and temperature control deserve an explicit plan. Claims about solar-flare-proof equipment from mods must be checked against that mod and version, not presented as Core behavior.
