Read the fishing feedback
Enter the fishing/combat stance with the rod and cast using the targeting controls. Watch the line-tension display once something takes the bait: reel to bring the catch closer and release tension when necessary. Use the bindings shown by your controls rather than assuming another player's setup is identical.
Visible splashes are a useful place to aim. The official B42 overview also notes that loud noise can frighten fish away. Arriving with a loud disturbance and repeatedly casting into the same quiet water is not a good test of whether fishing works.
Bring enough for the return trip
Carry food and drinking water before relying on a catch. Keep a route back and stop when light, health or supplies make staying risky. A single unproductive session does not prove the world contains no fish.
Inspect bait and line after a failed attempt. Once you have a catch, consider safe preparation and storage before collecting more than you can use. Fish can help the nutrition plan, but a successful fishing action does not automatically make every food state safe.
