Quick answer
What to do first
Use remaining safe stored water first, then establish collection and a suitable purification method. Treat river and rain water as tainted until its item state confirms otherwise. Heat it in a container and appliance that support that action; do not assume any bottle is safe in an oven or that plumbing automatically filters water.

- Water shutoff and world age determine tap availability; container and liquid state determine drinking safety.
Which water can you rely on?
| Supply | Use now? | Check | Next step |
|---|---|---|---|
| Already stored drinking water | Yes, if its contents are safe | Container contents and remaining amount | Reserve some for travel while arranging the next supply. |
| Water remaining in household fixtures | A short-term source, not an endless supply | Whether the fixture still has water | Collect it in suitable containers before moving on. |
| River or rain water | Not as untreated drinking water | Tainted status and container contents | Use an appropriate purification/heating action and recheck the result. |
| A container that will not heat safely | Not with that appliance | Material and available actions | Transfer to a compatible cooking container; do not improvise with an unsupported vessel. |
| A connected sink after shutoff | Do not assume filtration | Actual water state and the supply feeding it | Use a confirmed safe source if its output cannot be established. |
Separate drinking from collection
Collecting more water does not establish that it is safe to drink. Keep known drinking water separate from tainted supply so a rushed inventory action does not undo the preparation. Carry only the amount needed for the trip, with a reserve at the shelter.
Fill containers while a safe source is available. After shutoff, remaining fixture water is useful for bridging the gap, but a route that depends on finding another full sink every day is fragile.
Check the result, not just the animation
Use a compatible heat source and container, complete the supported action and inspect the contents afterward. A container sitting next to a fire is not proof that its water has been purified. Never treat cooking equipment as unattended, risk-free storage.
For the longer term, arrange collection alongside the food plan. Farming consumes water too; keep the drinking reserve distinct from that demand. On a shared server, label or organize the supplies so other players can recognize which water is ready to use.
Version notes & limits
Utility shutoff depends on your world settings and age. B42's liquid and container systems make the actual contents and supported heating action important; older direct-river-drinking shortcuts are not recommended.
Water supply and safe-state checks, not sink placement geometry, a well-location directory or unresolved plumbing filtration claims.
