Quick answer
Current live-game guidanceWhat to do first
Use World Modifiers for the selected world to adjust specific pressures such as combat, resource gathering, raids or portal restrictions. Change the setting you need instead of choosing a whole preset blindly. Record your original values first; a preset can overwrite several choices, and changing a death penalty cannot undo losses that already happened.
Choose by the problem you want to solve
| Your problem | Setting to inspect | Trade-off to understand |
|---|---|---|
| Gathering takes too long | Resource rate | Changes yields, not every crafting requirement or boss unlock. |
| Combat is too punishing | Combat difficulty | Changes the challenge; it does not teach the attack pattern for you. |
| Death recovery is the main frustration | Death penalty | Read the selected setting carefully. Harsher choices can destroy carried items; a later change does not bring them back. |
| You want to carry ore through portals | Portal settings | Changes transport restrictions. It does not allow tame animals through normal portals. |
| Base raids interrupt building | Raid settings | Reducing raids is not the same as removing all ordinary hostile creatures. |
| You mainly want to build | Hammer-related options | Building-cost changes are not a blanket promise that every recipe or combat item is free. |
Make the change deliberately
- 1
Back up the world and record the current settings. Agree on changes with the group if it is a shared save.
- 2
Select the correct world and open World Modifiers. Read the current values before selecting a preset.
- 3
Adjust only the relevant setting when possible. Recheck the full set after applying a preset because several values may have changed.
- 4
Save the settings and verify the intended behavior in a low-risk situation, not by deliberately dying with valuable equipment.
Dedicated-server presets can override each other
The official server guide supports startup options including -preset and -modifier. A preset replaces previous modifier choices; when combining them, put the individual modifiers after the preset. Keep a copy of the launch configuration before editing it.
For example, -preset normal followed by -modifier raids none starts from the normal preset and changes raids afterward. This is a server startup example, not a command to paste blindly into an in-game chat window.
To undo a change, restore the values you recorded. Do not reset an entire shared world to a preset just to fix one slider unless everyone intends the other settings to change too.
Keep settings and cheat history separate
World modifiers, spawned items and devcommands are different things. Do not infer an achievement guarantee from a difficulty setting alone. The achievements guide explains the current official 1.0 statements and the remaining limits.
Keep your settings note with the backup so a returning player or replacement server administrator can understand how the world was configured.
