Quick answer

What to do first

Practice on a spare vehicle, read the appropriate Mechanics book and start with actions whose requirements and success chance you can meet. Use the vehicle mechanics panel to check tools and knowledge before removing parts. If repeated work stops giving XP, change the eligible part or vehicle rather than stripping your main escape car.

XP multipliers and per-part XP eligibility affect progress; use the action's displayed chance.

Prepare a useful practice session

  1. Pick a spare car

Failed work can damage useful parts

Check: A safe practice location and a working travel vehicle kept separate

Action: Leave the escape vehicle intact.

  2. Match knowledge and tools

Some actions have vehicle-class and tool requirements

Check: The panel's unmet requirements and relevant manuals

    Action: Gather knowledge/tools before dismantling.

  3. Read the relevant book

    Improve eligible learning

Check: Current skill range and reading progress

Action: Prepare the bonus before practice.

  4. Start with manageable work

Harder parts are not automatically efficient

Check: Displayed success chance and needed tools

Action: Use lower-risk eligible actions rather than rare critical parts.

  5. Inspect XP after repeats

The same work may no longer qualify

Check: Skill gain and which part/vehicle was used

Action: Use another eligible action or return after the applicable interval.

Train toward a useful goal

Decide whether the goal is vehicle access, regular maintenance or a specific repair. This keeps the practice session focused. The skill required to attempt an action and the chance of a useful result are different checks.

Keep removed components organized by vehicle. Reinstalling a needed part correctly matters more than squeezing another attempt out of it. Check the car is complete before expecting to use it for transport.

When books and VHS are not enough

Media can help, but world limits and what the character has already learned can stop further gains. Move to eligible practice when those sources no longer help instead of replaying the same tape indefinitely.

If no work produces XP, check the server's skill rules and relevant mods. Compare the actual action and character state, not only a video title claiming fast leveling. Do not remove an established world's mods just to test a practice loop.

Version notes & limits

The Mechanics reference documents per-part repeat limits and action-dependent XP. This guide does not guarantee a current numerical XP yield or treat an old grinding route as universally optimal.

Mechanics practice and XP diagnosis, not all car repairs, an exact fastest-XP benchmark or a complete Electrical training guide.
