PEAK / update guide

PEAK Final Ascent Update

The official v2.0.a additions, the changes that affect existing runs, and the promises the developers did—and did not—make.

Short answer

The useful part first.

Final Ascent released on August 11, 2026 as patch v2.0.a. It adds Gloom and The Citadel, Ascent 8, ten new badges, Clown Luggage, the Jetpack, Warp Fungus, Glider, more hidden items, balance changes, and a secret the developers intentionally did not explain.

The major additions

  • Gloom and The Citadel: new biome variants that can replace Caldera and The Kiln.
  • Ascent 8: a new difficulty level with a deliberately hidden description.
  • Ten badges: each paired with new cosmetic rewards.
  • Clown Luggage: a new luggage pool for unusual items, including the Lollipop, Cannon, and Balloon Bunch.
  • New items: the official list names the Jetpack, Warp Fungus, and Glider, while leaving others undisclosed.

What changed for existing runs?

Loading an autosave no longer deletes it immediately. The save now remains until the run ends, whether the expedition wins or loses. Ascent 7 also changed: it no longer blocks revival outright. Players now start cursed and receive more curse from reviving.

Which balance changes matter?

Roots received less aggressive beetles, smaller spore-mushroom radii, longer pauses after wind, and more time between windstorms. Solo campfires now provide Morale Boosts, Mesa was lowered, Ancient Luggage is slightly more common, and several foods and rare items had spawn or effect adjustments.

Is this PEAK’s final patch?

No. The developers call it the last major content update, not the final software patch. Their announcement says PEAK is not a live-service game, while also committing to bug fixes and maintenance until the team is satisfied with stability.

What remains intentionally unknown?

The official notes withhold Ascent 8’s modifier, some new items, and the meaning of the mysterious statues. Treat day-one guides claiming a complete official answer with caution: these details were designed for player discovery and can change as evidence improves.
